Let me tell you about my old love. You might know it by noted Icons like Anna Wintour, Karl Lagerfield, Alexander Mcqueen, Marc Jacobs...these are only the A-listers. I loved fashion as if it was my own child. For the longest time, I would breath, eat, and sleep in fashion. Then I lost inspiration, because I found happiness somewhere else. I gained my boyfriend, my family, and most importantly, my spiritual contentment. As I matured into my age, I learned from life experiences and school that materialism seriously robs a soul of true happiness. Thus, I became somewhat uncaring of fashion and what it had to offer.
I still feel that way now. Many designers have amazing designs and astounding new creations. But what I hate the most, is how this industry puts an image in our head of what is the norm. I hate how they are the major industry that everyone looks up to, yet most can't make a difference in the world for the better. Many of these companies are huge capitalistic corporations, that rack up tons of money, yet cares less about the workers that mass produce their clothing in third world countries.
On the other hand, I am grateful to those in the fashion industry that are actually making a difference in the world. Those who are bringing awareness to many conflicts and providing a voice to the voiceless. Kudos to you guys for not being greedy and for wanting to make something for the better. Furthermore, my new inspiration is dedicated to the fashion companies who are humble. You are my new love, and someday I hope I can contribute to making the world a better place to live in.
